IoT Evolution Health: Connected and Software Defined Care

IoT Evolution Health began this morning and we’re feeling better already. The new event from IoT Evolution takes place this week in Orlando Florida at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and IoT Evolution Health speakers from Philips, PWeR, and Integron set us off with a positive diagnosis for the future.

Leading off, Alan Bugos of Philips opened up with an overview of the connected health landscape: what’s going on now, and what technologies will be needed to proceed. The session explored IoT for Connected Care and Health Informatics via health-tech and wearable devices, connectivity, data analytics and visualization to caregivers and clinicians that will deliver healthcare to a growing number of people much more effectively and at lower costs.

We are at the point of a new healthcare paradigm that is moving from a reactive approach towards providing proactive healthcare. IoT technology and concepts will play a big role in this transformation, he said.

Next, Noel Guillama of PWeR, Inc, gave us the healthcare technician’s perspective on how the three elements of healthcare-enabled technology leads to better care. Those elements are: Electronic Health Records (HER), Telemedicine, and, you guessed it, IoT.

“We think there will be a natural improvement in healthcare quality when you accomplish the ability to communicate patient condition better,” he said.

Wrapping up the morning, Bryan Lubel of Integron gave attendees a look at the future necessity of Software-defined solutions for Healthcare and IoT and ran through some key use cases to illustrate the points.

The rest of the day focused on telemedicine and geriatric care, and how these groups that find it difficult or impossible to make it to a health center can still have improved care thanks to IoT.

That’s all for now – but lots more to come. See you in IoT Healthcare.
