OCF Healthcare Project Elects New Chairperson

December 05, 2017

In a new release, Beechwoods Software has announced the appointment of Hervé Jourdain, the company’s Vice President of Architecture, as the new chair of the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) Healthcare Project. The OCF Healthcare Project aims to enable innovation by providing the data models needed to advance the Healthcare Internet of Things (IoT) for personal and medical devices, and to define the standards that will provide the interoperability, security and privacy that the Healthcare IoT industry has been waiting for.

Jourdain’s more than 25 years of experience in embedded systems has afforded him an expansive understanding of complex requirements from both a technical and regulatory perspective. He looks forward to collaborating with the OCF to address the unique challenges healthcare brings to IoT, and to help define the specifications Healthcare IoT requires.

The OCF Healthcare Project operates with the goal of providing the opportunity to deliver complete data sets from both consumers and enterprise for a truly interoperable specification that will not only enhance the health of the global population, but will also address some of the macro issues facing healthcare quality and delivery today, and in the future.

Healthcare devices that integrate IoT features can generate data that helps the unwell or, those at risk of developing chronic conditions, manage their ailments and slow disease progression. For the healthy, these devices weave into everyday living, seamlessly collect metrics about activities, and encourage maintaining healthy behaviors.

Enterprise healthcare providers will benefit from standardized data because it will lower the effort of supporting many different devices and allow health providers to quickly shift to devices preferred by patients or, those that have higher clinical value; leading to lower costs and increased patient satisfaction.

Through the data generated by the healthcare IoT, medical researchers and professionals will have extraordinary access to global data that will undoubtedly improve health systems, policy and access to quality healthcare.

For more insight into the future of Healthcare IoT, register now for the IoT Evolution Health event, which will take place January 22 to 25.
